Now, to you this may look not look like much but in reality it will become a $2 pedestal bowl to hold flowers (or any other item your heart desires)! People all over DIY blogs have been using candlestick holders to update regular-old bowls but I have yet to see one with this vision in mind.
My project began when I was able to find many examples of bowls I loved but could not justify spending $15+ on one when I needed anywhere between 15-20 in total! The following are some of those I was able to find that inspired this project and provided an overall vision for the end result:
Here's a GORGEOUS arrangement I found on initially on Pinterest but actually links back to a lovely wedding on Style Me Pretty (click on photo to follow the link through). These type of arrangements are what really sparked my interest in this style of vase.
Next, I did some online shopping and found the next two vases from some online retailers who would have been great to purchase through, but there are wholesale limitations and I knew I could DIY them for cheaper!
Beforehand - Decide and Gather on Supplies:
I knew I wanted this to be a cheaper DIY but I also knew I did not want it to look cheap in any way, shape or form! I had seen tons of projects on Pinterest of people using candlestick holders and items from the Dollar Store to make cake plates so this was where I planned on going to get my glass materials! I did a test run with a bowl and candlestick spraying them to make sure the color would stick and look nice enough. Success! Once I knew that my end product would look great, I purchased just over 20 bowls and candlestick holders. Now, this was over a month ago, so I've been DYING to get my hands on these and start putting them together but alas school work was too heavy with the end of the quarter so I had to box them up and wait until summer days were upon me! So finally, I had some downtime today and was able to get some work done! Here's what I've done so far...
1. Clean Your Glass! I used good ole rubbing alcohol to clean off the entire pieces of glass because I did not want dust or dirt getting glued down. Rubbing alcohol usually did the job to also get the price tags off; I would just squirt a little onto the sticker, wait a few moments and scrape it right off! Sometimes the adhesive was not easily removed so I used Goo Gone and then cleaned appropriately.
2. Glue Candlestick to Bowl It really is as simple as that! I used superglue (E6000) to adhere the two together, putting a thin amount around the upper rim of the candlestick holder as well as the bottom of the bowl in a ring where I wanted the two to stick together.
Until next time, Kate.
